Vale youth

THE front and back pages of the Barry & District News (March 4) shows two different faces of youth in Barry today.

The front page shows the bad face, the behaviour of the youngsters for whatever reasons was unacceptable and could not be tolerated and the swift action of the council and the police brought results in getting the nuisance stopped.

The back page shows the smiling and excited faces of young gymnasts, as well as covering an excellent report on the British Junior Athletic Championships 'Gold'.

Such enthusiasm should make residents of Barry and the Vale proud of our young people.

Leaders of all police, social and political groups should come together to try to solve this problem, it is their responsibility to do this for worried residents.

An easy and simple answer is not there, youth by and large have not any faith or interest in politicians, many see them as far removed from them and their daily lives, which is of course untrue.

We have to listen to young people and where possible act on their wants and needs, young people are not a race apart they are our future.

We must show them by our actions that we do care about them. But a firm message must also be sent out that anti social behaviour will not be tolerated.
