Keep track of rebuild on web

THE Blue Anchor Inn's rise from the ashes is being charted by a Barry man.

Chris Ware, from Trinity Street, is building a website dedicated to following the rebuilding of the historic pub.

Aberthaw's popular watering hole hit the news last month when a spark caught the thatched roof and set the building ablaze.

Chris told the News: "When I heard about the terrible fire I was horrified. It was as if somebody had told me an old friend had passed away.

"I have been going to the pub for more than 30 years each Monday on the bus.

"A group of my friends meet up there to enjoy the great atmosphere. We like the Blue Anchor because there is no music blaring. We can sit down and have a few pints without shouting over music."

Now the 50-year-old wants to keep an unique record of the pub's regeneration.

Since the fire, Chris, a cameraman, has started putting together a website aimed at charting progress.

Readers can log on to chrisware.net to view a whole range of pictures.

These include a nostalgic picture of Chris taking a stroll outside the pub and photographs of the devastating fire.

The Inn won't be easy to rebuild.

The renovation is so important to the heritage of the area that specialist architects will be brought in and the roof will be rethatched in time.

But, as Chris said: "The Blue Anchor will be back."
