IT is a sad time for the people of Barry, especially the children of Barry.
I refer to the closure and redevelopment of the old Knap swimming pool. A 'Jewel in the Crown' if ever there was one.
To lose such a fun place is sacrilege. Barry is a seaside resort, but, nobody has told this to the Vale Council, with its mixture of Tories and Welsh Nationalists.
I remember Steffan Wiliam making a comment once in the 'News,' he said that he always found that it was always very cold over the baths anyway and he would not miss the place - what a wimp.
There was always complaints from the residents of the Knap because of the noise during the summer season but the sound of children's laughter is one of the most joyous sounds on the earth.
While the redevelopment goes on, the place will resemble a building site, but it will be matched by the dilapidated building a hundred yards away - the Waters' Edge residential home.
This necessary home for the old folk of Barry has now been close for nigh on two years. The windows throughout the building have now been broken, and the place resembles something from a ghost town in the American Wild West. The only thing missing is the tumbleweed rolling down the promenade.
While we are on the subject of demolition, why don't we demolish this Vale Council, when we go out to vote in May.
They are not representative of the people of Barry. They are all, men, white, old and middle class. The same sort of people who have been ruling this country for years. We need younger people, more women on the Council. Fresh ideas.
I don't want some old guy from St Mary's Church or some obscure village in the Vale to tell me they're going to shut down our pleasure amenities.
