50 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 11, 1954:

Ald Mrs Mary Holland who, in her own words, has been "under the weather for some months past" was welcomed back to the Barry Town Council by the Mayor (Ald Tom Yeoman).

A heated discussion took place in the Council Chamber on Monday with regard to the housing of childless couples.

The Agility Team of the Jenner Park Youth Club, who won the Advanced Competition at the recent Physical Education Competitions held at Neath, were complimented by the adjudicator, Vernon Jones of Swansea University.

Alun Thomas, the Cardiff and Wales centre three-quarter was present at the Spring Dance of the Barry Rugby Club held Wednesday.

25 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 15 1979:

Barry Fire Service were quickly on the scene when a fire broke out at the Jet petrol service station, at Barry Road, at lunchtime, on Friday.

A well-known Barry photographer's colour transparency of a race at the Barry Yacht Club has won him first prize in a nationwide competition. The photographer is John Harvey, of Pontypridd Road, Barry.

Barry authoress of children's books, Joan Drake, has published yet another book to delight the young members of the family.

At the Barry Round Table charity ball on Friday week the Mayor of the Vale (Cllr R Gwyn Thomas) presented the chairman of the Barry Table (Edwin Phillips) with a cheque for £3,500 towards their day care centre for the elderly now nearing completion in Maesycwm Street.
