DVD review

IF YOU are a fan of the X-Men, there is a very strong chance that you will enjoy this film immensely.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a clever movie that ties in many well-known figures of popular fiction in an age-old tale of heroism.

Starring Sean Connery as the leader of a group of people who have, as the title suggests, extraordinary talents, he and his somewhat unwilling colleagues fight against the Fantom.

Connery plays renowned adventurer Allan Quatermain, and he is joined in battle against the technological terror by seafarer and inventor Captain Nemo (Naseeruddin Shah), vampiress Mina Harker (Peta Wilson), the invisible man Rodney Skinner (Tony Curran), American secret service agent Tom Sawyer (Shane West), the ageless, invincible and devious Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend), and the dangerous split personality of Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde (Jason Flemyng).

The group sign up to the battle for Queen and country, albeit reluctantly, but they begin to realise that there is another factor at play in this fight.
