Success of alley gates

THE VALE of Glamorgan Council and its leader Cllr Jeff James are to be congratulated on their support for the crime and anti-social measure of 'Alleygating.'

The design of the gates is superb, not only practical but also pleasing in design as well. I have seen similar gates in Bristol where they offer not only protection and reduced stress to local residents, but have in fact led to an increase in value of properties protected.

One point that may have been missed is that, with increased security, think of the benefits for our children: they can play in safety, without any worry for their parents. Politicians of all parties often talk about such measures, well we have in this Conservative council people who are in fact prepared to get up and do something about it.

In view of recent events in Buttrills, I hope that this scheme can be adapted here for the benefit of local residents as well.
