Holiday offer for best hero

BARRY'S best-loved residents could soon be standing at San Francisco's fabulous Golden Gate Bridge or at Barcelona's famous Las Ramblas boulevard.

Our Citizen of the Year competition is back - and this year the prizes are bigger and better than ever.

The top three winners will receive a week-long break in the United States, a two day trip to cultural Barcelona or an LCD colour television.

Launched on St David's Day, the competition is now up and running and searching for special individuals who make a difference every day.

We all know someone who does that little bit extra to help others without any thought of reward.

The Barry & District News, the Cardiff Road Industrial Complex and the town council would like to thank these unsung heroes.

But the News, and sponsors Dan Evans and Morrisons, need your help.

It's simple to nominate someone. All you have to do is pick up a form, fill in the details and return it by Monday, April 5.

Forms are available from the Barry & District News office or from Barry Town Council at Gladstone Road. You can also vote online by logging on to dowcorning.com/barry and clicking on the Citizen of the Year link.

The judging, by News' assistant editor Sue Vincent-Jones, town mayor Jane Andrews and Dow Corning's Jonathan Coleman, will take place on Thursday, April 22.

The overall winner will earn a seven night break for two in San Francisco. This includes flights, travel insurance, transfers, three star accommodation and two city passes.

The runner-up will receive a two night break in Barcelona. This includes flights, travel insurance and three star accommodation.

And the person in third place will enjoy a state-of-the-art LCD colour television, courtesy of Dan Evans.

All the entrants will receive a certificate and there is a luxury Morrisons' hamper for the person who nominates the winner.
