Six year struggle ends successfully

A BARRY couple have celebrated the end of a six year struggle to support their family while studying at university.

Simeon and Sarah Morris, the winners of this month's Moment Competition, enjoyed a slap up meal at the Meditteraneo.

They were celebrating the end of a long battle which meant giving up their catering business to support Simeon through college.

He has now fulfilled a lifetime ambition of training to work with children and the years of hardship have paid off.

The 36-year-old father of two said: "It was very difficult to support my family and carry on with my degree, but I was given a lot of support and the university was very good.

"In the future I want to go into teaching children with learning disabilities on the educational psychology side in primary schools."

He graduated from University of Wales Institute Cardiff with a BSc Hons in psychology. He previously attended Barry College to obtain qualifications to get into university.

Simeon, of Llanmead Gardens, is now working with Barnardos and at Grangetown Primary in Cardiff.

He helps children with learning difficulties in the school and he takes Barnardos children to activities which they cannot do alone.

His wife Sarah, also 36, said: "We are very proud of what he has achieved.

"In his new job the feedback he is getting is very good already which gives him a lot of satisfaction.

"It was a very hard time but my family and I supported him all the way through.

"We were still running the business at first and we had two small children, Bethany, who is five, and James, eight."

On his change of career, Simeon said: "I get great job satisfaction from seeing a child progress in their reading or anything which I have helped them with.

"It is wonderful to see how happy they are when they manage to get to the next stage."
