EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of February 25, 1954:
l Miss R Holtam, of Woodlands Road, Barry, who is a postal and telegraph officer at the Head Post Office, Holton Road, Barry, will take up duties as sub-postmistress at St Athan Station Post Office on June 17.
l The Barry Labour Party's municipal elections campaign opened with a dismal flop on Friday when fewer than two dozen people were present at a meeting at the Colcot School at which the speakers were to be Walter Padley, MP for Ogmore, and Mr Robert Tyley, prospective Labour candidate for the Holton Ward.
l Jennifer Smetham, aged 14, of Aneurin Road, Barry, a pupil of Holton Secondary Girls' School has a picture hung at the National Exhibition of Children's Art in Wales, the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art, Plas Mawr, Conway. Jennifer's picture is entitled The Biggest Aspidistra in the World.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 1, 1979:
l The South Glamorgan Fire Service (Barry) were called to Winston Square, Colcot, on Thursday afternoon when a young girl got her head stuck in some railings. The young girl was released, but ran away before revealing her identity.
l An unexploded 20mm shell, found by Stephen Farrugia, of Laleston Close, Barry, on the waste ground adjacent to the Barry Magistrates Courts complex, was taken to Barry Police Station on Friday and later collected by Army personnel.
l On February 2, there were 152 vacancies at the Barry Jobcentre and Llantwit Major Employment Office.
l On Friday week, the Barry Plastics Sports and Social Club was presented with a darts board by the retiring collector of the district for 27 years, Mrs Joy Payne.
