Barry Town 0 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0
Barry Town's new Director of Football, Colin Addison, saw the Dragons take a well-deserved point from his first match in charge, but was disappointed that his new charges hadn't taken all three points from the match with fellow strugglers Carmarthen.
Addison made just one change from the Barry team which took a point at Afan Lido a fortnight ago, Lee Matthews coming back from injury to replace Gareth Picknell.
Barry's former Carmarthen forward, Gavin Allen, had the first chance of the game, his shot on the turn forcing the visitors former Welsh semi-pro goalkeeper, Tony Pennock, into a full-length dive to save.
At the other end, a Leigh De Vulgt free-kick went narrowly wide of the Barry goal as did a shot from Jon Keaveny, the former Swansea forward beating three men before shooting.
Pennock was back into action, tipping over from a Luke Sherbon half-volley after 35 minutes. 17-year old Sherbon returned to Jenner Park last week after a spell on trial at Aston Villa, and his improved stamina and determination in the middle of the park means that it may well be sooner rather than later that he fulfils his potential.
Pennock was again Carmarthen's hero before the break, saving a point-blank header from Gavin Allen.
It was against the run of play that Carmarthen were awarded a penalty early in the second half. Keaveny got his legs tangled up with those of Dean Philpott and was awarded a dubious spot-kick. Justice was done, though, when Nicky Burke's kick was well saved by Lee Rudall, diving to his right to keep the match goalless.
The Dragons threw all three substitutes on in an attempt to find a winner, and went close through both new forwards, Mattie Davies and Alun Hughes both seeing efforts saved by Pennock.
However, it could all have been in vain when Carmarthen broke forward in the final minutes and Shaun Chapple went past Barry 'keeper Rudall only for Dave Sherman to clear the lines and ensure that Barry at least took a point from a game in which they deserved all three.
