Sweet Joanne loses fight for life

LOVING MUM: Joanne Batchelor nursing her baby boy Joseph has lost her battle against Cystic Fibrosis

A BRAVE and loving Barry mum has lost her battle against cystic fibrosis, just months before she was due to have life-saving surgery.

Described by her grieving family as sweet-natured and generous, Joanne Batchelor, of Lystep Road, died on February 3, at just 27 years of age.

She is survived by her parents, Dennis and Denise and her three-year-old son Joseph.

Taxi-driver Dennis said: "Joanne was the sweetest, most uncomplaining, happy-go-lucky person. She would do anything for anyone, and I have never come across such a loving mother. She will be missed terribly."

Joanne was meant to travel to England in January, to see a consultant before having an organ transplant that would have prolonged her life. But she became too ill and could not manage the distance.

Dennis, 59, said the family has been overwhelmed by the support their friends have given them. He told the News: "The funeral was on Tuesday in A G Adams funeral home. I have never seen so many people.

"After the service, the majority of them made the journey with us to Coychurch crematorium. After that, they all came to celebrate Joanne's life at Barry Town Football Club. They have been a huge comfort to us.

He added: "Joanne's friend, Ceri Williams, is holding a charity night and we will be going. The money will be donated to the CF Trust, without whom Joanne would never have coped.

"They were always there for her, and as Joseph also has cystic fibrosis, we are desperate for a cure."

The event is on Saturday, March 13, at Barry Island Conservative Club, at 7pm. Admission is ticket only, priced at £5 each.

The tickets are available from Shelley in Kutz and Co, Holton Road, or from Ceri and Craig Williams on 01446 720851.
