Addison's bid to rescue Dragons

COLIN Addison was today due to be unveiled as Barry Town's new director of football.

Barry Town chairman Stuart Lovering said: "Colin Addison's signing is a real coup for Barry Town and reflects our ambition for the club.

"Colin is a vastly experienced manager - on his record he is probably the most experienced and successful manager in Barry's history, or even of any club in the Welsh Premiership.

"We are doing all we can to make Barry Town great again and I would again urge the club's fans to get behind us."

Addison's appointment is until the end of the season, but with a view to him continuing long-term.

He has been in club management for more than 30 years and has plied his trade at more than a dozen clubs.

He began his managerial career at Hereford United where he enjoyed giant-killing success over Newcastle.

After leaving Edgar Street he went on to manage Derby, Newport and Swansea. In 1980/81 he took Newport County to the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup Winners' Cup, where they met East Germans Carl Zeiss Jena.

Addison has also enjoyed successful spells in Spain, managing La Liga teams Atletico Madrid, Cadiz and Celta Vigo.

In his playing days, Addison was a striker with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and York City.

Lovering said: "In recent years he has rescued both Swansea and Forest Green Rovers from trouble. Although we hope Colin can take Barry up the table, he has been brought in as part of our overall strategy to strengthen the club."

Dave Hughes will stay on at the club as assistant to Addison.

Lovering added: "Dave is very well-respected at Barry and we want him to stay here long-term. He has done a tremendous job in the most difficult of circumstances. He has kept team spirit together and ground out some impressive performances. We hope he can develop a good working relationship with Colin and gain invaluable experience as his assistant."

Barry Town winning lottery numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7.
