HAVING never visited Barry since my childhood some 40 years ago, I have had reason to return repeatedly over the past year.

One of the many pleasures has been encountering the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band playing at numerous events.

It is especially thrilling to hear so many young musicians enthusiastically playing a form of music that is sometimes quite wrongly regarded as middle-aged. Since they are making such valiant efforts to raise funds for themselves, I would like to think that the local council, local businesses and business associations, as well as individuals, are playing their part in supporting such a joyful, all-inclusive musical enterprise.
