Centre would like to thank readers

MAY I, through the pages of your newspaper, thank all your readers who supported the campaign to ensure that the Vale of Glamorgan Council did not withdraw vital funding from the Gibbonsdown Children's Centre.

I believe that the public outcry from thousands of ordinary Barry citizens played a pivotal role in ensuring that the Vale Council juggled its priorities in favour of the children's centre.

I would especially like to thank the 3,000 kind people who made the effort to sign our petition.

Because of them, hundreds of disadvantaged children in the years to come can now be looked after safely and lovingly while their parents benefit from education or work opportunities.

Finally, thanks must go to the Barry & District News for the support that you have given us in our campaign to alert the public to our plight.

Rob Curtis (Cllr for Gibbonsdown) Merthyr Dyfan Road Barry
