Businessman sues radio star

A VALE businessman is suing loud-mouthed Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles for a £1m after claiming his firm went bust because of the outspoken star.

Controversial Moyles is alleged to have publicly panned a CD cover made by Andrew Wilkey's firm

Mr Wilkey's company produced the self-adhesive cover designed to protect CDs from scratches.

But the firm - Das Systems - went into liquidation with debts of £350,000 after Moyles alleged that the cover did not work.

Moyles - self-styled "Saviour of Radio 1" - made the comment after Mr Wilkey appeared on his show in November, 1999.

Mr Wilkey yesterday said that he is suing the 29-year-old DJ for libel in a case which is expected to be heard in the High Court later this year.

Mr Wilkey, from Boverton, near Cardiff, said : "I had told my customers and others to listen to the broadcast and I was stunned.

"His comment had a significant impact on my company and I feel he was very reckless and it has cost me a lot of money."

A Radio One spokesman said: "The matter is being dealt with by our lawyers.

"We can make no further comment until a resolution is reached."
