A STUDENT from Barry is raising £3,500 for charity so that he can follow in the footsteps of Prince William.
Twenty-year-old Daniel Kemp, of Highlight Lane, is taking part in a three month expedition to Namibia with Raleigh International.
The product design student at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, has to raise the money by August 1.
Daniel told the News: "I will be taking part in a number of sponsored events over the next few months and I hope the people of Barry give me their support to raise money for this worthwhile cause. I am looking forward to doing my bit. I'm sure it will prove a valuable experience."
Raleigh International is a youth development charity, which inspires people from all backgrounds and nationalities to discover their full potential by working together on challenging environmental and community projects around the world.
Daniel's expedition will involve activities like building fences to protect endangered rhinos, carrying out work for the Cheetah Conservation Fund, constructing sports pitches, helping to teach games in isolated communities and providing wells for communities with no fresh water.
Prince William worked as a volunteer on a Raleigh International project in southern Chile in 2000.
One sponsored event Daniel will organise is likely to be a swimathon. Daniel is a qualified lifeguard and has spent the last few summers working at the Barry station.
After he completes the expedition, Daniel hopes to spend time travelling around Southern Africa.
Daniel is in the final year of his product design course at UWIC.
Last year he won a competition organised by Corus Steel with a winning design for a bus stop.
