A FORTY-FIVE-year-old dad has died following a car crash on Barry's Link Road.
Ian Bull, of Powys Drive, Dinas Powys, was fatally injured when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit light goods vehicle, at 1.49pm on Tuesday.
He suffered extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The van driver, who has yet to be named, was shaken, but relatively unhurt and did not require hospital treatment.
The busy highway was closed for four hours while police cleared the scene, causing traffic chaos in the eastern part of town.
Officers are now trying to piece together the events leading up to the accident.
A spokesman said: "We have no clear reason why the accident happened. We have conducted an examination of the scene and investigations are continuing."
He added: "Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash and anyone with information is asked to contact Barry Police on (01446) 734451, or the Eastern Roads policing unit on 02929 222 111."
But while the police work goes on, Mr Bull's distraught family have to try to come to terms with the tragedy
His wife Gail, was too upset to talk to the News. She requested that the family be allowed to grieve in private at this sad time, but issued a short statement through South Wales Police.
Mrs Bull said: "Ian was a quiet family man and all for his kids. He had a passion for motorbikes all his life. He enjoyed his sports and keeping fit and enjoyed life to the full.
"He had his dream job working with planes at British Airways in Cardiff Airport.
"He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends."
Mr Bull's employers, British Airways Maintenance Cardiff, also paid tribute.
Head of human resources, Clare Barlow, said: "Ian was a valued company member who joined British Airways Mainten-ance Cardiff in October 1995.
He was well liked and respected within BAMC as a highly competent aircraft technician with a passion for aircraft.
"Ian will leave behind lots of friends and will be a sad loss to all at BAMC. We would like to take the opportunity to send our condolences to his family during this difficult time."
