Early raid

IN the early hours of Thursday morning (January 22) residents in Clive Road were woken by floodlights, heavy machinery and the sound of disintegrating concrete.

Daylight unveiled the true horror. Was it a bird? Was it a plane? No, it was Associated British Ports sending in the stormtroopers in a raid on Clive Road steps.

It knew very well that a daylight raid on the steps would no doubt bring an immediate response from Barry Island residents, similar to that of last June, when a sit-down protest stopped bulldozers in their tracks.

Despite a series of meetings spanning 13 months between Barry Island Residents' Association, the Vale Council, the WDA, ABP and Jane Hutt, AM, ABP has erected a sign on Clive Road declaring 'Steps Demolished.'

Unfortunately, Goliath has beaten David on this occasion and just a sheer bank remains where a vital link once stood.

We aren't done yet ABP, there is still the rights of way application to come.
