ALL four teams at the Barry Leisure Squash Club won their respective divisions before Christmas.
Everyone at the club is looking forward to the second half of the season, which started with the Welsh Closed Squash Tournament held at Sophia Gardens and Ryder St.
In the Men's C category, four out of the five entrants made the quarter-finals.
Richard Tailby and Captain Billy Spence played an epic match which Tailby won 9-7 in the fifth.
Adam Evans lost out in five sets to eventual winner, Ian Fenner Evans who then beat Tailby in the semi-final. Craig Dawe also lost in five sets, to Barry old-boy Dave Driscoll.
Meanwhile, back at the Leisure Centre, the crowd was treated to a fantastic Welsh Cup quarter-final when the A side played Academicals, of Cardiff, with John Patrick limited to a spectator role.
First on court were Jamie Ttophi and Adam Evans, with the youngster winning at a canter .
'OJ' was determined not to be outdone and came through a tough encounter with Andrew Thirsk 3-1.
Skipper Spence and new dad Tailby were next on court and the former showed that it is not only B-team players he can run into the ground as he secured the team victory.
Craig Dawe slow-danced his way around the court with the match already won and Roger Cant was grateful to register a win against Dawes Meister.
In the South Glamorgan Cup, the B team entertained St Mellons.
Andy Rosser stepped in at short notice and played a marvellous five-setter.
Simon Vaughan also had a five setter.
Mark Salmon lost the first game but then woke up to win in four, while Luke dispatched Chris Robinson 3-0
Captain Reesy went on last and did not disappoint the long awaiting crowd on the balcony with another fine victory.
The same night at the Barry Leisure saw the A side playing their first league match in South Wales Division 1A.
'Del Boy' was unfit so Brian Close was called up to play another Barry Leisure old-boy, Colin Thomas, of Rhiwbina A.
Close won the first two comfortably but then eased off and Thomas clawed his way back to 2-2.
With a bit of advice from other team members, Close found his touch and won the fifth.
Craig and Richard won 3-0 in emphatic style and Jamie wasted no time in beating Dave Davies 3-0.
Captain Billy was slow starting in his match against Simon Vincent and soon found himself 2-0 down.
Yet again Billy called on his supreme fitness and talent to entertain the packed balcony and win the match 3-2.
This week the A team were due travel to Newport for a Wednesday match and this evening the B team are entertaining Llantwit Major on in their first league encounter in South Glamorgan Division One.
