WITH regard to the Vale Council's recent decision to approve a development brief for land in Cadoxton village, I was amazed the cabinet could even discuss important planning matters relating to an area without consulting the councillors representing that area.

I naively believed that when I voted for my councillors, they would then be able to represent my interests at council meetings.

Having spoken to Councillor Fred Johnson regarding this matter and researched the events on the Vale of Glamorgan Council's excellent website, I find that all decisions are taken by a cabal of Conservative and Plaid Cymru councillors none of whom, bar one, live in Barry.

Their knowledge of the area is obviously minimal given the ridiculous way in which they have lumped three, totally unrelated plots of land together as one brief.

There has been no consultation with local residents whatsoever or any regard given to the implications of development on this site.

The site formally used as a garage business does need redevelopment, but to lump in every other piece of land in the vicinity without regard to road safety and access implications is ridiculous.

The way the council has done this is iniquitous and totally undemocratic, as effectively the local people do not have any representation. If this is how local government is run, then it's no wonder so few people bother to vote in elections.
