Premier league 'needs to improve'

After nearly a month in the hotseat at Jenner Park, Barry Town's new chairman, Stuart Lovering, has made one decision about the Welsh Premier: "It must get better!"

Lovering also called on the Football Association of Wales and other Welsh organisations to get behind the Welsh Premier and give the league the support it needs to succeed.

"I've been here for nearly a month now and have visited a number of grounds around the league.

"There is so much to improve across the whole Welsh Premier - the pitches need to be improved, the facilities must be made better, we must appeal to people to support their team.

"It's no great advert to the league to have crowds around the 100 mark.

"I have spoken to several chairmen around the league and we all seem to have similar ideas.

"We must get better investment for the league in order for it to develop and reach its full potential.

"That must come from the Football Association of Wales to improve stadia, improve the pitches and to market the league properly.

"As a league, we also need to renegotiate the TV contracts so that we can get the best possible coverage and finance for the league from that quarter.

"If the FAW and other bodies in Wales are unable to ensure that the necessary improvements can be made, then we will have to look at other options, which obviously would include the possibility of playing in England.

"Europe is a great incentive for all clubs in the Welsh Premier, but we have to ensure that the standard of everything inside the league is as high as it can possibly be, and we need significantly more support from the FAW if we are to achieve that."
