EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of December 31, 1953:

A the conclusion of the public business at a meeting of the Public Health Committee, Cllr R M Howell said he thought they should pass a vote of thanks to the Press for their co-operation throughout the year.

A deputation of local dairymen was due to interview Mr Raymond Gower MP for Barry yesterday.

Arrangements were made for the handing over of the public seat which the Dinas Powis Women's Institute are presenting to the Parish Council to commemorate Coronation Year.

The Borough Engineer (Mr John Proctor), at a meeting of the Health Committee on Tuesday, reported that there had been some items of malicious damage during the construction of the Meggitt Road conveniences.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 4, 1979:

British Rail have been granted permission to increase rail fares from Sunday next, January 7 and they go up, in most cases, by an average of nine per cent.

Three projects in South Glamorgan - a city centre pedestrianisation, a village centre duck pond and a village housing development - have won commendations in the Civic Trust Awards for 1978.

The South Glamorgan Health Authority, at a recent meeting, decided to go ahead with plans for cutting the waiting lists in hospitals under its control.

A motion recently tabled at the House of Commons by Barry's MP Sir Raymond Gower and Mr Michael Roberts MP for Cardiff North West, calls for the abolition of tolls on the Severn Bridge at a reasonably early date.

At the Royal Schools of Music Pianoforte examinations the following were successful. Grade I, Anita Mir; Grade IV, Helen Young.
