50 YEARS AGO Thursday November 23, 1953:
Western Welsh were pleased to announce that Mr T C White was transferring to Barry to take over the position of Area Manager. His former post had been Area Manager at the Cardiff Depot.
The Barry Sunday School Union presented its sixth annual Miscellaneous Concert at the Trinity Presbyterian Church Hall. They sang and acted to a packed hall.
A suggestion was put forward at the Local Road Safety Committee for a roundabout to be placed at the four-road junction at Weycock Cross. A motion referring the matter to the Public Works Committee was carried unanimously.
Remarkable interest was shown in the Coronation two-day show, organised by the Barry and District Bird Society at the Memorial Hall. Well over a thousand people inspected a representative collection of budgerigars and canaries with a number of other fascinating English and foreign birds.
25 YEARS AGO Thursday November 30, 1978:
An operation to tidy rear lanes around Cadoxton was discussed. 'Operation Clean-up' was put forward by the Cadoxton Residents' Action Group, to be carried out by a team of volunteers.
A self-build housing scheme on Barry's Cwm Talwg estate was highly commended in the Good Design in Housing in Wales awards for 1978. Three medals and eight commendations were made, one commendation to Mr Tony Hartley for a scheme at Elan Close.
Customers of the Highwayman Inn in Rhoose raised £607 for charity when they held an auction. The items on offer included cuddly toys, baskets of fruit, a coffer pot and a chicken dinner, donated by customers and suppliers of the pub.
Work on the new Cadoxton Community Centre begun and it was expected that the scheme would be completed in 12 months.
