Teams battle it out in health and fitness event

THE FOURTH annual Lifestyle Health and Fitness Challenge took place in Barry Leisure Centre last weekend.

Fourteen super-fit teams had to compete against each other, showing off their skill, strength, speed and stamina to earn their place as overall winners.

The all-day event was held on Saturday, December 6, starting at 9am. Our photographer Glyn Paul was there to catch just a few of the teams in action.

The challenge was supported by Gym Systems, Coca Cola, Morgan Signs, Solution Express, South Wales Cameras, Happy Embroidery, Technogym, Lucozade, Tremorfa, Glamorgan Telecom and sponsored by Mars.

In the men's individual events, the winner of the external run and the bleep test was Aled Rees from Les Croupiers XT. The winner of the strength test was Paul Gough from Team Vydex. The winner of the rowing test was John Percy, also from Team Vydex. The top man in the swimming test was Calvin Harris of Neil Munn Boxercise and the X train event winner was Sean Lambert of Team Vydex.

In the women's individual events, the winner of the external run and the X train event was Sally Owen of the League of Extraordinary Ladies. Gwent's Finest dominated the score board with Vickie Fitspatrick taking the bleep test, Maria Henry taking the strength, Clair Hall winning the rowing test and Sarah Bally romping home in the swim.

Overall, for the females, the League of Extraordinary Ladies took second place and Gwent's Finest took first. In the male teams, Bad Manners took third place, Team Vydex took second and Les Croupiers XT proved themselves the fittest of the contest.
