EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of August 6, 1953:
A print of the ancient steps of Caerphilly Castle, which was exhibited by Mr Len Jones, secretary of the Barry Camera Club, at the recent Coronation Exhibition has been accepted for the Royal National Eisteddfod Photographic Exhibition at Rhyl.
The Order of the Knights of the Road was presented by the Mayor (Ald Tom Yeoman) at the monthly meeting of the Barry Town Council on Friday.
The Barry Corporation is to stand the £950 loss on the Coronation Carnival at Romilly Park.
It is believed that all post-war Bank Holiday records were smashed as a result of the fine weekend which brought immense crowds to Barry's beaches.
A dancing success which may eventually bring her a national title was won by Miss Brenda Evans, 20-year-old bank clerk of Somerset Road East, Barry.

A luncheon was held recently at the Hotel Waters Edge, The Knap, Barry, on the occasion of the approaching retirement of Sir Hugo Boothby from the South Wales Regional Board of Lloyds Bank Limited.
Recently 70-year-old Mrs Alice Pommerenke, of Bassett Street, Barry flew to Australia for her first reunion in 20 years with her daughter Mrs Betty Morgan.
At the Community Hall on Tuesday week, the members of the Barry Island Darby and Joan Club enjoyed an afternoon of choral singing. Welcomed to the club by Mrs L Heald were the Barry Ladies' Choir.
The Joe Thomas Trio, along with Colin Woodman, Dave Rendall and Bernard Morton (trumpet), a member of the Johnny Patrick Band will feature in the latest jazz season at the Wyndham Conservative Club tonight (Thursday).
