HAVING just returned to the United States from a visit to my home town of Penarth, I am shocked at the lack of foresight going into the town's development.
Everywhere I looked there was new construction - luxury flats, new homes, old home and building conversions.
Why, you ask, am I amazed?
Has anyone on the current town council put any thought into the environmental and social impacts?
There is ZERO parking, two way traffic on streets that were designed for horse and cart traffic, housing prices that are pricing young Penarthians out of the home markets.
Infrastructures that are non-existent, the steps leading down to Archer Terrace are an accident waiting to happen for Penarth's elderly citizens.
Streets are dirty, street sweeping seems a thing of the past!
The Esplanade is a 'slum in the making'. The buildings there have had a green tarp on them for at least a year!
My message to the town council is - "wake up before you lose what made Penarth - Penarth."
