I like Tony

Your letter writer, Mr Short, describes the Labour government as diabolical.

Well, if he thinks that cutting unemployment to half of what it was under the Tories, reducing inflation to its lowest rate in living memory, managing the economy so well that the Bank of England is able to keep interest rates at such a low level, building more hospitals and training more doctors and nurses, and giving pensioners' TV licences and heating allowances is diabolical, then his definition is different from mine.

As to the war in Iraq, if we had a leader of the calibre of Tony Blair in the 1930s, perhaps my generation would not have needed to fight, and so many young lives would have been saved.

George Colston, Churchfields, Barry.
