Valiant effort

NEWI CEFN DRUIDS 2,

BARRY 1

BARRY'S one point tally from 11 Welsh Premier games could be academic if the meeting of creditors is unsuccessful on December 10.

Ten Premier clubs could lose all 3pts if Barry fail to impress the creditors with their ten per cent offer.

December 10 will be decision day for the very future of Barry Town AFC.

The ongoing apathy of Barry people means that it is down to a very few who care whether the club survives or not.

Last-minute Sir Galahad in the form of property developer Stuart Lovering has offered £100,000 with the promise of a return to former greatness for the club.

Nothing is going to happen until next Wednesday's meeting which will be absolutely make or break for Barry Town.

One of the ten victors over Barry was Newi Cefn Druids who last Friday became the latest club to inflict defeat on a side they have never beaten before.

Barry made a valiant effort to get something from this game, with more commitment and a positive attitude, but they lacked attacking bite.

The North Walians took a 14th minute lead when Dan Desormeaux finished off a good move. The goal bucked up the home side and they took the game to Barry without further first half success.

Barry were failing to worry the home defence but went in at the break with everything to play for in the second half.

Barry's woes were further increased when Desormeaux tricked his way through the Barry rearguard to give Lee Rudall in the Barry goal no chance.

So it was 2-0 after 72 minutes but Barry scored a consolation goal when Alun Hughes made it 2-1 a minute later.

The Druids deserved to win but next week will show whether the result means anything at all, on the most important day in the history of Barry Town.

Barry host Haverfordwest tomorrow (Friday), kick-off 7.30pm. The West Walians are in fourth position and will be hot opposition for Barry's struggling players.
