Gold concern

ON READING the letter from Cllr Gordon Kemp (No Cost, Letters, November 13) I was strangely reminded of Mrs Dale's Diaries - "I'm worried about Jim".

Well, I'm worried about politicians of all parties - MPs, AMs and councillors. My concerns are first, are they honest, and second, are they capable of getting their facts right?

I know that John Smith MP is a busy man, but he is wrong in claiming that the Vale Council tax payer will foot the bill for the "golden handshakes" for retiring councillors. It will, in fact, be paid for by the Assembly.

Then we have Cllr Kemp proudly telling us "I didn't vote for the scheme".

Well, having made enquiries, I find that four Vale councillors, including Cllr Kemp, and to my surprise, two Llantwit Major ward councillors, who are normally well thought of in the town, abstained. And I would question all of them as to why they did not vote against the scheme.

Finally, I would make the point that even though the Assembly will pay, it is still taxpayers' money.

W Roberts (Mrs), Ham Manor, Ham Manor Park, Llantwit Major.
