GENEROUS locals have replaced the £250 stolen from the Sarah Greening fund at a Barry pub - and then more than doubled it.
The new money includes a donation of £100 from two pensioners.
And the fund has received another huge boost with Cardiff International Arena putting up a spectacular prize to be raffled.
The fund was set up at the King William IV pub in Cadoxton to give to Sarah Greening, who worked at the pub, when she comes out of hospital.
She is recovering from severe head injuries inflicted by her husband, who later killed himself on the railway line where their son had been killed a week earlier.
The landlady and locals were horrified when the charity boxes were stolen.
But just five weeks later all the money has been replaced and, taking pledges into account, it now stands at £600 and rising.
Landlady Susan Neale said: "We've had a marvellous response, absolutely wonderful.
"You can't even put it into words. Everyone has put back in what went out."
The CIA are putting up a prize of tickets to see any show, with the winners being chauffeur-driven in a stretch limo.
House Manager Ray Morris said: "I saw it in the Barry and District News. I talked to my boss and we just decided there and then we would do something."
Susan's partner Robert Morgan said that the generous donation has also helped other charities they were collecting for.
Robert said: "Ray has also given six tickets for the Pantomime for the Pensioners Christmas Fund which was also stolen.
"We will be holding a buffet and disco for the raffle draw on December 11."
Susan and Robert would like to thank everyone who has given to the fund so far.
Susan added: "The response has been marvellous. It's just a shame we just didn't catch whoever stole it."
