FEELINGS are still running high over the Vale council's controversial Homes4U scheme, despite three public meetings to try to allay people's fears.
Residents from Pontalun Close and Monmouth Way in Gibbonsdown, Barry, met council representatives again last week.
A housing committee meeting today will discuss the scheme and the cabinet will make a final decision in December.
The series of meetings were called after residents insisted that they had not been consulted about plans to re-house young homeless people under the scheme.
Cllr John Thomas attended the meeting at Holm View leisure centre, but resident Tommy Richards was worried he would not support protesters.
Mr Richards said: "When I asked Cllr Thomas if he would stand by us, he wouldn't answer me at all."
The age of future residents was also raised and many agreed that lowering the advertised 55 year limit to 45 years would be an acceptable compromise.
Keith Lewis said: "I think if they drop the age down to 45 then that will net another group of people who will be willing to take on the property and who would integrate with pensioners.
"I don't think in that sort of age bracket that there would be anti-social behaviour."
Director of services James Cawley said: "I think it was recognised in the Gibbonsdown meeting that there is a need for all communities to support homeless families and people who require accommodation.
"We have to get a balance between listening to people and trying to deliver our statutory duty.
"Lowering the advertised age does gives us an option and it's pleasing to hear it come from people who want to work with the council."
