Tae Kwon-Do Club go Dutch

THE CADOXTON and Colcot Schools of Tae Kwon-Do took a small contingent of fighters to the Dutch Open championships in Delft, near Rotterdam.

The tournament started with all competitors from as far afield as Poland, Hungary, England, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, France and, of course, Wales, lining up and being welcomed by host Jan Koster.

Troy McQuiston competed in the senior yellow belt 64kg class and after some hard bouts took first place and the gold.

Fighting in the boys under 145cm, in only his third contest, Kyle Hill fought his way into fourth place, missing out on the bronze by just one point.

In the girls under 130cm pocket rocket Georgia Knight took everyone by surprise with her aggression, and had no trouble in taking first place and the gold.

Sherelle Stickler competed in the girls under 135cm and gave a good account of herself, only losing the bronze in extra time.

Adam Hartery made a return to competition after a six month lay-off, competing in the junior boys under 140cm black belt division, coming away with gold.

In the junior girls under 145cm black belt division Danielle Miller fought her way through to third place.

Competing in the girls black belt under 165cm and giving a good account of herself, Jessica Mardon lost out to her much bigger opponent.

Sean Morrison unluckily lost out to the eventual winner of the boys black belt under 155cm to some home town judging.

Dale McCarthy, fighting in the boys under 160cm black belt, and one of the biggest groups, eventually took the bronze and third place.

Fighting in the girls under 170cm black belt, Rhianne Humphries suffering nose damage from earlier rounds, showed all her experience to come away with second place and silver.

Competing in the ladies black belt heavyweight division, Hayley Payne lost out to the eventual winner.

To complete the day and entering at the last minute a junior girls team comprising Rhianne Humphries, Jessica Mardon and Danielle Miller fought through several rounds to take the team bronze.
