Dawn celebrates win

A BARRY cleaner has swept up a lottery winof mre than £100,000. Dawn Dando, 43, who lives in Gibbonsdown matched five numbers and the bonus ball on the Lotto mid-week draw on November 5, pocketing £106,854.

Dawn, who lives with her husband Graham and their four children, said: "I've been brushing, cleaning and mopping up for years - but sweeping up on the Lotto is the best day's work I have ever done."

But she said that they nearly didn't play.

"I was getting things ready for a bonfire party for the children when Graham rang from Bristol and asked if I'd remembered his paper and the lottery tickets.

"I'd forgotten - so I had to pop down to the Pricedown Store in Barry where we buy our tickets, and picked up two Lucky Dips."

Dawn has been in the cleaning business all her life and Graham works as a contracts manager for the same cleaning firm.

Dawn realised they had scooped the windfall after she checked the numbers on her mobile.

"I get the results delivered to my mobile phone and Graham thought I was winding him up when I first told him we had matched the five numbers and the bonus ball. Two hours later when it was confirmed we had won over £100,000 there were a lot more fireworks."

But it's not the first time Dawn has managed scoop a cash prize.

Eighteen months ago she matched five numbers winning £1,090.

The couple added that they plan to carry on working in the cleaning industry and not let the money change their lives.

"Graham and I have spent our lives in the cleaning industry and although we plan to carry on working, the windfall gives the family security for the future."

Graham said that the only plans they have so far is to have a wonderful Christmas.

He said: "We always have a great Christmas and when the eleven members of our family sit down for dinner this year it will be very special indeed."
