Stop this

Restrict fireworks to licensed displays only. I am not the only one who believes that this is the only way to put an end to this dreaded extended firework season. So do the 92,835 people who signed my petition calling for this. I presented this petition at 10 Downing Street on July 8.

Irresponsible youths are using anything from garden fireworks, modified garden fireworks to illegal black market fireworks.

This misuse, besides being frightening, very dangerous and life threatening, is stopping our police and fire brigade from dealing with real emergencies. It is also costing us the tax payers a lot of money.

All of this misuse is already illegal, so why the government thinks that bringing in more unenforceable laws is going to make any difference I will never know. This new Firework Bill is only an enabling Bill with limited powers.

It does NOT give the government the power to regulate or restrict garden fireworks. There is talk about restricting the noise level of private fireworks to 120 decibels and display fireworks can be 130 decibels. 85 decibels can damage human hearing.

We have to keep the pressure on the government to make sure that it does change the firework laws and that these changes protect us, our animals and our property.

I have started a new petition asking the government to amend the Firework Bill to restrict fireworks to licensed displays only at fixed times and to reduce the noise levels of all fireworks.
