DVD review Equilibrium

WORLD War Three has come and gone. Mankind made it, and to stop war a drug has been mass-produced to be taken by everyone in society.

This opiate suppresses any feeling that could turn man against man. But it also destroys love, sympathy, compassion - everything that separates man from animal. It is a futuristic world, governed by a strict regime. Although war has been eliminated, books, art and music are now strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death.

John Preston (Christian Bale) is the highest ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules.

When he accidentally misses a dose of Prozium, the highly trained enforcement officer suddenly becomes the only one capable of overthrowing the regime that created him.

All of a sudden, Preston starts to feel, and likes it. His over-zealous and ambitious new partner suspects this and sets out to trap him. The double-crossing and second-guessing keeps the story alive. And talking of dogs, when Preston discovers a pound of strays, who can resist his unsubtle attempts at heroism?

This is a very good film. The special effects are impressive and the plot holds together. A very solid and highly entertaining flick that you will want to watch again.
