Waterfront takeaway undere way

WORK BEGINS this week on a new Focus DIY Store and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) at Waterfront Barry, next door to the Morrisons supermarket.

Morrisons has announced the arrival of the new outlets, which will cover a total of 55,000 sq ft, plus a drive-thru, when completed in summer 2004.

Chris Evenson, Morrisons' Development Director, said: "The new Focus DIY store and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant represent a significant investment in the Waterfront Barry area as well as generally boosting town-centre trade by attracting new shoppers."

Byron Lewis, Project Manager of Waterfront Barry, said: "We are confident that both Focus DIY and Kentucky Fried Chicken will benefit the community in the Barry area and complement the existing developments here. This is great news for Waterfront Barry as we continue to strengthen our commitment to the local community by attracting a choice of top-quality outlets."

The multi-million-pound Waterfront Barry development is a joint initiative between Associated British Ports (ABP), the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Welsh Development Agency. ABP is using its specialist property-development expertise to project-manage the development, which is regarded as a prime example of the type of private/

public partnerships that is one of the principal keys to sustainable development.

Over £26m has been invested in the 77-hectare (190-acre) brownfield site for new residential, commercial, tourism/leisure and community facilities in the last eight years, and further mixed-use development is planned for the near future.
