Information that could save lives

SULLY will benefit from an emergency information scheme which could be the difference between life or death for the elderly.

The system will provide vital medical and other useful knowledge about the elderly person when it is needed most.

If the emergency services are called out to an accident or medical problem the correct details will be at their fingertips.

These will include name, contact addresses, relevant illnesses and medication.

John Hodder, 84, who lives with his wife Margaret, 82, in Stradling Close, Sully, said: "I have heart trouble which means I need special care.

"If I use this form and the emergency services know about the scheme it makes me feel better about the care I will receive.

"It could save my life one day.

"There will be all the information they need to help me in the capsule.

"This is an excellent idea for the elderly.

"But I must thank Malcolm Davies for pointing it out to me because without him I would not have known about the scheme."

Facts about the person are stored in a clearly labelled plastic container which is kept in the fridge.

Three matching labels which are known to the emergency services are displayed in the house, one on the fridge door, one on the inside of the fridge and another on the front door at eye level inside.

Secretary of the Sully and Lavernock Neighbourhood Watch Association and Chairman of Sully Community Council, Malcolm Davies of Sully, said: "It is a very useful thing for the elderly and infirm.

"We, as an association, wanted to get this up and running to help the community.

"We have already distributed a lot of forms around the area."

To obtain a form and a capsule to store the information in, contact Sully Community Council on 029 2053 0006 on weekdays between 9am and 12pm.
