BARRY pubs and clubs did a good trade on Sunday morning as local rugby fans re-discovered their pride in the Welsh rugby team. read more

  • Family recover

BARRY mum Sarah Greening cannot remember the double tragedy that has hit her family and her children are asking people not to tell her - yet. read more

  • Payback

I AM quite amazed at the majority of Labour and Conservative County councillors voting for the "Golden Goodbye" payment for retiring councillors, which could amass to £20,000 per retiring councillor. I am glad to say that the Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales councillors voted against this motion. read more

  • No cost

AS always it was illuminating to read John Smith's comments, this time on the so called 'golden goodbyes'. It appears that he has totally misunderstood how these are to be funded, or more likely he just wants to ignore the facts as they might spoil the 'spin'. read more

  • Watch out for dangerous toys

IN THE run up to Christmas, Vale of Glamorgan parents are being urged to take extra care when they buy gifts. read more

  • Plumb job

I always like to use local tradesmen if I need any jobs doing. Recently, I had a siphon go in my cistern, and after being quoted an extortionate price for a new cistern, by a national company, contacted a local plumber. read more

  • Essential

I would thank your correspondent Mr Estala (Barry and District News, October 30) for his comments about the looming parking problems in the town centre. Due to the welcome establishment of Wilkinsons store in the car park site there is obviously going to be a loss of shoppers' car parking. The completed Town Hall scheme will further reduce car parking. Instead of 125 places the number falls to 80 parking spaces. read more

  • Fireworks

THE Barry Rotary Club put on a grand 'fireworks' display on November 5. read more

  • Desperate for points

BARRY Town were out of action last Saturday because of the 3rd round of the Welsh Cup. read more

  • Memories

HAVING read of The Last Flight of Concorde (Barry & District News, October 30), it evoked memories of that momentous period in history when I and others (working for P Collis & Sons Engineers Installing Plant at the airport) witnessed that historic event, when the whole workforce (that time 2,500 workers) all formed in a very royal cheer that went up, as Concorde took off. read more

  • It's all gold for Lorelai

BARRY'S Lorelai Westcott, aged ten, won a gold medal at the British Rhythmic Gymnastics grades finals in Burton Upon Trent last weekend. read more

  • You ask if we can fix it, Answer: 'Yes, we can!'

AFTER the massive response to last year's Barry Round Table and Barry and District News Fix-It Campaign, we have re-launched our best ever give-away for 2004. read more

  • What's on in and around Barry from Thursday November 13 to Wednesday November 19

  • Park cash

THANK you for publishing my letter dated September 27. read more

  • Appeal

I AM hoping your readers can help me. I lost a gold necklace inscribed "Susan" between October 27 and 29. It is very sentimental and I am very upset. It was lost in the Barry/Cardiff area and I would be very grateful if anyone has found it to contact me on 01446 412440. read more

  • Building

THROUGH your newspaper we would like to inform the residents in and around the Park Road area that there has been an application to build 16 two-bedroom apartments on four floors in the grounds at Highfield Close, Park Road. read more

  • Shame

JOHN Smith MP (Barry & District News/ Penarth Times October 30) has it right; the Welsh Assembly and Vale Council have it wrong; these payments of "exit" money - up to £20,000 - to retiring councillors should have every member of the electorate itching to dump every AM and councillor who voted in favour. Not only that, but let's have a prominent list published in all newspapers locally of those councillors who are going to take this pot of cash, with their party allegiances also displayed prominently. read more
