Pensioners call for dog control

PENSIONERS have spoken of their torment by a dog which is left to roam around their flats.

The dog has also be seen emptying bin bags leaving litter all over Gower Court.

This complaint comes just two weeks after the Vale of Glamorgan Council issued a warning to owners saying they will be taken to court if they do not keep control of their dogs.

The elderly residents of Gower Court are so fed-up with the boxer that they have contacted the dog warden.

Resident Ernest Yates said: "Every Tuesday when we've got the bins out he comes round and rips them open. All the way up the lane we're talking about 30 elderly people, we can't clear it up all the time. Most of us can't pick anything up at all."

The group says it has been going on nearly two years and has been advised to secure their litter.

Pat Randall Walmsley said: "We've spoken to the dog warden but we didn't get much response.

"We've also spoken to the refuge people and they tried all they could to help us. "They said what we could do to protect the rubbish.

"They come up the lane especially to get the rubbish so they have helped all they can. A dog shouldn't be roaming on it's own."

Mr Yates added: "I've even had to put a box on the wall for the milk bottles because he was coming round in the mornings and tipping the bottles up and drinking the milk."

But neighbour Sylvia Gibson, 84, believes the dog just needs some attention.

"I feel sorry for the dog because he's lonely wandering around all the time.

"Why doesn't he take him out on a lead to the park or something."

Mr Yates added: "All we want is for him to keep the dog under control and to put some fencing or wire netting up to stop him getting out."

A council spokesman said they stand by their warning issued to dog owners and urge them to take their responsibility seriously.
