THE BARRY Dragons Tae Kwon Do Club recently returned from the Samurai open with a fine haul of trophies.
The tournament was held at the Cheltenham recreation centre and was the WUMA (World United Martial Arts) open. The first trophy of the day was won by Ashley Coles who took third place in junior Korean kata, Tom Farmer also came third in the intermediate kata group. Mark Palfrey then stepped up to win the men's open Korean kata section Mark being pushed all the way after a two way tie for first place but winning the play offs in fine style.
There were more medals for Ashley Coles as he took second place in continuous sparring and third place in points sparring, not to be outdone Tom Farmer came back with a third place in both -125cm and -135cm points sparring. Abigail Palfrey took a very good second place in a group once again dominated by a large entry of male fighters. Danny Ryan took his usual first place in points sparring beating club mate Peter Fordham in the final in a group dominated by Dragons.
Nicky Limbrick took first place in mens points sparring and Mark Palfrey took third place in the mens under 60kg sparring. The final first place went to Richard Palfrey who won the boys continuous sparring group, Mollie Arbuthnot and Aaron Langmead finished fourth and fifth respectively in their kata group.
