Our miracle boy

WHEN Alina Eveleigh gave birth to her new son, she and her husband David had no idea of the trauma they were about to go through.

One-day-old Kiean started having breathing problems and was unable to feed.

David and Alina took him straight to hospital on Christmas Eve where they found out he was suffering from a rare heart condition known as transposition of the arteries and he would need an operation to survive.

He was taken to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Alina who lives with David and their three-year-old daughter, Georgia, in Barry said: "It was a nightmare, we took photographs of him just in case he didn't make it."

David told how it was a traumatic time: "The hardest thing for me was Christmas Eve, Georgia was hanging on my leg and I was trying to explain to her what was going on."

But Kiean made a 'miracle recovery' at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Alina said: "He was the second quickest recovering baby.

We were told to expect him in for up to eight to ten weeks but he was out within two weeks."

The operation, which Kiean underwent, involved switching the aorta and pulmonary artery's to the correct position.

"After the operation I had never seen so much equipment," said David.

Nearly one year after the ordeal the couple who were so touched by the generous care and support they received while their son was in hospital, have decided to organise a number of fundraising events for their carers at the Ronald Mcdonald House.

The home offers families a comfortable place to stay and gives support to families while their children are receiving treatment.

Alina added: "They were brilliant, really lovely.

We had a direct line in our room so we could find out how Kiean was doing."

Every year around 600 families stay at the Ronald Mcdonald House and in order to keep it running the home relies on charity and needs approximately £100,000 a year.

The couple have organised a number of events over the weekend to support the charity including fancy dress, a disco and a raffle.

The events start on Sunday, October 26.
