LOVERS of solo singers and instrumentalists who have attend previous youth concerts by Music in the Vale know that they will experience a musical treat on the weekend of November 8 and 9 when, for the 12th year, the Vale of Glamorgan Young Singer and Vale of Glamorgan Young Instrumentalist of the Year Competitions will be staged at Barry Comprehensive School, Port Road West, Barry.

The young singers will be on Saturday and the young instrumentalists on Sunday.

Over the years the competitions have become a really important part of the local cultural scene attracting entries from as far afield as Newport, Bridgend and Merthyr.

Everyone is invited to the preliminaries during the day free of charge. Admission to the evening finals will be £3 payable at the door.

Both concerts start at 7pm. Refreshments will be available.

Music in the Vale wishes to thank their sponsors Fordthorne of Cardiff, The Vale of Glamorgan Council, Dan Evans (Barry) Ltd, and all those who made individual contributions, and Mr D Sparrow OBE head teacher of Barry Comprehensive School for making his school available.

The entrants have practised very hard for these competitions, so please come and give them your support.

They really do deserve it - and you will have an evening to remember.
