Barry Townswomen's Guild held its monthly meeting on Monday when Mrs E Joy Davies presided.

Following an intimation from the town clerk, Mr T D Howells, that he wishes to retire in April on reaching the age of 65, the town council unanimously appointed his deputy, Mr J C Colley, to succeed him.

St Helen's Youth Club, Barry, was the host to 70 members of the St Joseph's Youth Club, Cardiff, at an inter-club visit on Sunday week.

Mrs A Richardson and Mr E Cawley (president) presided at a meeting of the Barry No 1 Branch OAP on Tuesday week.

Mr Reginald D Evans, youngest son of the late Mr E P Evans, the Cardiff veterinary surgeon, and Mrs Evans, of Trem-y-Don, Barry, is leaving shortly for Rhodesia.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of October 19, 1978:

Ashley Griffiths, 17, of Pencoedtre Road, Cadoxton, a former pupil of St Cadocs School, has just won two Welsh youth international soccer caps.

A choir from the Barry No 5 Branch OAP entertained members of the Cadoxton Darby and Joan Club on Tuesday week. The leader of the choir was Mrs Fitzgerald.

The increase of £1 a week in central heating and hot water charges for 350 Gibbonsdown households has brought such a storm of protest that a hasty decision has been taken by the Vale Council's Housing Committee to have a complete rethink.

Six-year-old Angela Jones, of Church Road, Rhoose, is the envy of all her friends, for on Saturday week they all stayed at home to watch her first appearance on television. Angela appeared on Tiswas.
