Rookie wins mixed major

SURPRISE winners in the 2003 Sir Robert Webber Cup were husband and wife team Kevin and Mandy Knowles.

Whilst Kevin is an experienced golfer and former Junior Captain at Brynhill, Mandy is a novice, having taken up the game a mere 18 months ago, in her first year of competitions, her handicap has been reduced by 8 shots.

The pair had some good victories on their way to the title, beating the formidable pairing of John Griffiths and Anne Phillips.

In the final they were level with former winners Roy and Judy Davies after the stipulated 18 holes; they replayed and this time Kevin and Mandy won with a few holes to spare, ensuring the recording of their names in perpetuity on the honours board in the clubhouse.
