NHS wastage

I HAVE just finished watching the Kilroy programme (October 8), when the subject was the NHS.

There were quite a lot of complaints and suggestions put to the Minister, who was in attendance, but the one thing not mentioned, which is one of the biggest drains on the Health Service, is waste!

Here is an example.

I had to visit the doctor with regard to possible heart trouble -- I am now in my 80th year.

The doctor gave me a prescription and told me to take one tablet, and put it under my tongue to dissolve - the next day to use a spray, ie one tablet and one squirt in two days.

There were 50 tablets in the bottle and I cannot say how many squirts in the other bottle. Who made the profit?

None of the tablets or squirts remaining were used.

I have spoken to Mrs Jane Hutt AM, and to my local chemist who said she has also spoken to Mrs Hutt on the matter.

I was also told of a lady who had passed away, and her draw was found to be full of unused inhalers. Possibly not her fault as she was ill and elderly.

In all these years why hasn't something been done about this state of affairs?

The authorities must know what is happening.

This waste must be costing the NHS millions of pounds.
