BARRY'S notorious Five Mile Lane has claimed another life, despite the Vale of Glamorgan Council's efforts to make it safer.
The motorcyclist who died when his bike was in collision with another vehicle last week has been named as Stephen Kennedy from Pyle near Bridgend.
The 40-year-old father-of-three, originally from Scotland, was killed after his black Yamaha motorbike collided with a silver Toyota Yaris along the accident blackspot on Friday, October 3, at approximately 5.35pm.
Over the years the Vale of Glamorgan Council have undertaken a series of safety measures to reduce the number of accidents that occur on the on the road including resurfacing work, new road markings, rumble strips and reflective studs.
Also at the end of last year a 40mph speed limit was introduced onto a major stretch of the road which runs between Barry and Bridgend
A Council spokesman said: "In the near future, the council will be looking at the first year of operation of the speed limit and will examine all accidents and their causes."
But that is of little comfort to his family who, wishing to be left to grieve, released a comment that paid tribute to the aircraft engineer.
It said: "Stephen was a loving husband and a father of three.
He was a family man and will be sorely missed by all those that knew him. He had only recently moved to the area of Pyle and had settled into the community quickly."
The thirty-nine-year-old female car driver also sustained injuries and was taken to the Princess of Wales hospital in Bridgend.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Eastern Roads Policing Unit at Cardiff Bay Police Station on 029 20222111.
