CD rreview: Gareth Gates 'Go on your own'

GARETH Gates was destined to be a pop idol - whether he came first or last in the TV series.

He has the little-boy-lost look down to a fine art, and every mother in the country took pity on him as he stammered his way into the hearts of the nation.

But since hitting the big time, Gareth has taken control of his impediment, and has earned himself a bit of a reputation with a certain lady!

Unfortunately, his music is just another slice of average.

The double album Go Your Own Way is split into two: Day and Night.

Strangely enough, the songs on the first are quite chilled out, and the second quite up-beat.

Perhaps it's a socialising thing - kind of take it easy in the waking hours, then going out for a bit of a jig at night. Who knows?

But nevertheless, there is nothing special about the songs on this album.

They share a lot of names with existing songs - even the album has borrowed its title.

That is not to say Gareth won't enjoy success with this CD.

He is highly marketable, and there are thousands of young girls who scream his name, plaster their bedroom walls with posters and dream of meeting him.

So, for a young Mr Average, this is the perfect average offering.

There is nothing offensive or controversial about his lyrics, and his voice does not hurt your ears.

That's got to be some kind of recommendation - hasn't it?
