BACK in the summer, Barry RFC Under-10s held their awards day with special guest Celtic Warriors and Wales back row forward Richard Parkes the guest of honour.
It proved to be a special day for Austin Thomas who picked up three awards: Players Player of the Year, Supporters Player of the Year and Top Points Scorer with 181 points in 10 matches.
Austin seems to be following in the footsteps of his older brother Lee Thomas, who has gained many national honours and who now also plays for the Celtic Warriors and Pontypridd.
He also gained many trophies and records while playing for the Barry Mini sections, and still holds the record for 396 points scored in a season.
Most Promising Player of the Year went to Nathan Jenkins, while Luke Booker, Callum Scott, Hannah Jenkins, Luke O'Sullivan, Efan Ellis, Jacob Ellis, Richard O'Sullivan and Jay Lynch Wilson were all awarded trophies for outstanding performances.
This team are the pride of Barry RFC and for the last three-and-a-half years have remained unbeaten.
In this time they have played 38 matches, amassing a massive 1473 points with only 124 points against.
Last season alone they scored 83 tries and 64 conversions, totalling 543 points with only two tries conceded.
They have become a formidable team thanks to the high standard set by coach Ricki Thomas, and opposing coaches have been impressed.
This year they are looking to carry on their success at Under-11 level, and also challenging at U-12.
Anyone interested in joining should come along to Barry Rugby Club on Sundays at 10am.
Special thanks go to Barry Booker and Tom Fogg, and also Broad Street Motors and Hawkins Antiques who sponsored the wonderful trophies.
