CARMARTHEN 0, Barry Town 0
BARRY Town have found a real star in goalkeeper Lee Rudall.
The young player would have been deputy to Mark Ovendale but has now established himself firmly as Number One, showing great all-round ability.
Rudall frustrated Carmarthen with a string of excellent saves and was the main reason why Barry secured their first point of the campaign.
Barry's change of circumstances has given them a completely different team to the all-professional side which lost 3-2 to Aberystwyth in the league opener.
At Carmarthen, Barry, kitted out in the white away strip, looked a little more solid as David Hughes tries to strengthen the side.
The back four of Morgan Harries, Ben Jones, Gareth Elliott and Gareth Picknall did well and gave Barry a firmer base than of late.
Firmer defence
With only one goal conceded against Afan Lido, and this clean sheet, David Hughes will be more satisfied that his side have a firmer back four.
Carmarthen, one place above Barry at the foot of the league, have given Andrew York the caretaker manager's job in light of the dismissal of Tommy Morgan.
"Yorkie", one of Barry's heroes over the last decade has a lot of pressure on him.
It was disappointing therefore to hear a certain section of Barry fans barracking him.
He has been a loyal player for Barry Town and a very nice guy.
Early running
Yorkie's side, with a 440-strong crowd watching, were out to impress and made all the early running, but Rudall was on hand to save from Gavin Allen.
Barry's discipline faltered when Mike Emery was booked for kicking the ball away, closely followed by Sean Jones.
Carmarthen's attacking almost paid dividends when Dale price let go an angled shot which hit the underside of the bar and bounced away.
Gareth Elliott was the third Barry booking before the interval.
The second half belonged to Rudall. On the hour he raced out of goal to charge down Burke's effort - great anticipation.
Rudall, who must be capable of reaching a far higher level of football, made a great double save from Nicky Burke and then Thomas.
Even then he didn't rest on his laurels and made his best save to deny Price. Rudall's shot stopping made him easily man of the match.
Mike Emery set off on a great run, beating four men before being tackled.
He and front runner Junior Borg looked lively, but could have done with some better service.
Red card
A 12-man brawl just outside the Barry penalty area saw Gareth Picknall sent off for his initial foul on Owen Thomas, in the 75th minute.
Barry's Adam Hughes could have scored but Carmarthen keeper Robert Thomas made a rare save to deny him.
Barry: Rudall, Harries, B Jones, Picknall, Elliott, C Jones, Hughes, Sloman, Emery, Borg and S Jones.
This week Barry are at home to Risca in the Welsh Cup on Friday at 7.30pm.
International
Next week's game against Welshpool has been postponed in the light of the Welsh Under-21 International against Serbia and Montenegro at Jenner Park on the Friday at 7.30pm, adults £3, children and OAPs £1.
