THE Barry Dragons Tae Kwon Do Club recently returned from the Gloucestershire Open, with several novices entering their first tournament.
Tom Farmer, Aaron Langmead, Frankie McGill and Mollie Arbuthnot all entered the novice kata group with Tom Farmer taking a fine second place, despite a big entry.
Carys Thomas and brother Rhys, also in their first tournament, fought well, both winning early fights. Carys went on to the final and eventually lost a hard fought fight.
Ashley Coles returned to form with a fine third place.
The performance of the day came from 16-year-old Mark Palfrey who won the under 65KG men's sparring group for the third time.
Mark had several hard fights before the final which he dominated from start to finish. A new novice class has just started at the YMCA.
Classes are Tuesdays from 5pm to 7pm, Thursdays 6pm to 8pm; Saturdays 5pm to 8pm, drop in at the YMCA or call club instructor Colin Palfrey, tel 406971.
